None of them was happy. (( Means all of them were sad)) . (None) is used to negate and is usyally dealt with as a singular. Both Salah and Hani succeded. I like both of them. Both were abscent. (Both) is used to refer to two subjects or objects and is usually affirmative. It is dealt with as plural.
